Fernie & Elkford offices

Janell

Janell is a Certified Optometric Assistant at our Elkford location. She has over 20 years' experience in the medical field and became an OA after moving to the Elk Valley from Alberta. She has made Elkford her home and is happy to be a part of making optometry services available to the local community. In her free time, you can usually find her curled up on the couch with her dog while reading a new book or exploring the back roads with her husband and new friends.

Lyndsey

Originally from Claresholm, Lyndsey moved to Fernie for a life in the mountains! She has completed her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant training in 2022 and she oversees all the contact lenses in our office. Lyndsey is our contact “guru” and is in charge of ordering, receiving and contact lens training and will help you with any questions you may have in the future.

Selina

Selina started her career at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2007. She completed her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant certification in 2009. Since then she has taken on numerous roles throughout the office. In 2015 she joined our edging lab team which led her to her position as Lab Manager. If Selina isn't making your glasses in our very busy edging lab, you'll find her engaged in family time, mountain biking and any outdoor adventure.

Monica

Monica started her career at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2006 where she completed the Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant course. Monica is well-rounded in every area of our busy Fernie office. She first trained as a lab tech assistant, then moved on to do the frame purchasing and dispensing and she is currently the office manager in the Fernie location. Monica keeps up with current and changing aspects in the Optometric world by attending workshops and online training. When Monica is not at the practice she can be found mountain biking and wake surfing in the summer, and fat-tire biking and snowmobiling in the winter.

Jessica

Jessica started at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2005 and became a certified Optometric Assistant in 2006. Since the beginning Jessica has played many roles within Rocky Mountain Optometry but most recently and for the longest she has been our bookkeeper and behind-the-scenes manager. Jessica enjoys the challenges of the busy practice and helping patients. In her spare time you can find Jessica spending time with family.

Donna

Donna joined the RMO in May of 2020 and became a CCOA shortly thereafter. During the week, Donna can be found upstairs working as a Lab Tech or ordering office supplies for the team. She does her best to assist the team as needed and is always available to offer positive encouragement or even bring you a laugh or two whenever possible. Life is too short to be serious all the time! During her spare time, she enjoys camping and exploring the back country with her family and friends.

Wendi

Wendi Started with Rocky Mountain Optometry September 2009. She completed her Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant Certification in 2011. Wendi currently works the front desk, checking in all patients and assisting where needed in the office. When Wendi isn’t working you’ll find her out running with her dogs, or just enjoying the outdoors like camping and mountain biking.

Madison

Madison was hired at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2022, and soon after became a Certified Optometric Assistant. Her roles in this office include front desk work, helping patients pick out glasses, and contact lens training. Madison’s favorite thing about her job here is seeing the smiles that come when finding the perfect pair of glasses or successfully putting in contacts for the first time. Originally from Saskatchewan, she has picked up new hobbies that weren’t as accessible back home- she enjoys snowboarding, steep hikes, and backcountry camping.

Kayla

Kayla was hired in the Fernie and Elkford office early 2023 and is currently working towards her Optometric Assistant Certification. Kayla is very well rounded in the office and can be seen mostly in the pre-test room getting patients ready for their visit with the doctor. Her favourite thing about working at RMO is getting to know all the different patients and providing them with the best customer service possible! In her free time she can usually be found cuddling her puppy at home or out and about with friends.

Nicole

Starting as an optometric assistant in early 2024, she quickly transitioned into the role of a lab tech assistant at RMO, where her passion for eye care blossomed. Originally from Santiago, Chile, she took a hiatus from her previous urban life in Fernie's mountainous basin, which feels like home to her. Her natural habitat is probably a café where she can read and write her fabletop games or novels, but you can also find her outside walking her dog Panqui, running, riding her bike or at the gym. Grateful for the journey that led her here, she looks forward to further growth in this dynamic field.

Ian

Ian started with Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2024 and has enjoyed learning the varied roles around the office, particularly the operation of the different optometric equipment. He likes the variety involved with the job and interacting with our patients. Ian grew up in New Zealand before coming to Fernie in 2016 to ski. After moving around a bit, Ian finds himself back in the Elk Valley, for good, where he still enjoys skiing, fishing and days at the lake.

BLAIRMORE OFFICE

Suzanne

Suzanne started working at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2019. Sue was hired as part-time; however, seems to be here full-time filling in! She’s lived all over Southern Alberta, although in the Crowsnest Pass she has really found her love of hiking. “The trails around here are some of the most beautiful in Alberta”. In her spare time she really enjoys riding her motorcycle and taking in and performing at various venues around town. This job has given Sue the best of all worlds and she is so happy to spend the days playing and working here.

Rhonda

Rhonda started at Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2001. This office quickly became her home away from home, mostly because she loves the people that make-up our offices. If Rhonda had to make a list of her favorite things it would start with her family, long summer days by the lake, hiking and crafting. Rhonda loves serving our communities, and hopes to see you soon.

Alli

Alli has worked at Rocky Mountain Optometry since 2015. Born and raised in the Crowsnest Pass Alli loves having a career that allows her to work with and help people in our community. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, baking, crafts and being outdoors. Alli feels lucky to live in a place where the outdoors seem to change from day to day, always something new for her and her family to discover just outside the front door.

Cheryl

Cheryl joined Rocky Mountain Optometry in 2018. Cheryl has worked in a few different jobs and this one is where she truly felt that it was her home. She has always considered the Crowsnest Pass her home even though she did go “wandering” in her 20’s. Unlike her co-workers, adventuring is not high on her favorites list- she prefers sweaters, cool nights, warm campfires, and being surrounded by her favorite people. She could not imagine doing that anywhere else.
